Overview

The improvement of the digitalization and the transmission of the voice

on data networks is developing a new market in full expansion. Projectes

Telemàtics Engitel S.L. is conscious of this fact and it focuses its efforts

on the development of VoIP applications.

The main idea of this project is taking advantage of the protocol VoIP for

the implementation of a private branch exchange (PBX). Asterisk, a GNU

software solution, allows to create an economic switchboard and to

incorporate some extra services as the offered by the most powerful

commercial PBXs. Finally, the voice server has been implemented with

some of these services as fax, auto attendant, voicemail, call forwarding

or music on hold.

Due to the current increase of the interest of the companies to invest in

the management of any type of networks, we decided to incorporate to

the PBX a mechanism that permits the manager to monitor in real time

the active calls, consult the historical calls and know the current

configuration of the switchboard. Asterisk doesn’t have a service of

these characteristics, so finally we decided to design an independent

application. In the development have been used different Java

technologies that allow the application to interact with the Asterisk PBX

to obtain the information and print the data by web.
